From a young age I grew up surrounded by the magical nature of the Bohemian Forest, where my parents and I often went on holidays with our dogs. From this foundation I built a strong relationship with nature and animals. In my teenage years, I became a vegetarian, rescuing fallen birds from their nests, taking stray cats and dogs home, and organising various animal rights petitions. While studying at university, I became more and more attracted to the ideals of veganism, so after moving from Prague to London I started to look for cruelty-free cosmetics that would work for me. Britain is one of the most vegan-friendly countries in the world, and I have discovered many brands here that do not test their products on animals. Faith in Nature is one of them.

Faith in Nature is a renowned British cosmetic brand with principles based in nature. It tests none of its products on animals and uses cruelty-free ingredients, for which it holds a Human Cosmetics Standard (HCS) certificate. Faith in Nature products contain no synthetic dyes or fragrances, no parabens, no SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) or Methylisothiazolinone, which cause allergies and skin irritation, nor any substances that are genetically modified. Faith in Nature cosmetics are based on nature and value the planet, its people, animals and plants. The people behind this British brand believe that all living things are interconnected.
Rivka Rose, the woman behind the brand
It’s not only the links to nature that attract me: I also love the story behind this amazing brand. The history of Faith in Nature is intimately connected with its founder, Rivka Rose, who grew up in New York City. Rivka Rose has always been connected to nature, being enchanted by the changing seasons in New York. She says she always loved working on her garden and planting flowers.
Rivka Rose moved to California, where her interest in herbalism grew and she began to make herbal ointments. What pleased her most about this was knowing that she could help people and they were satisfied with her special ointments.
The path to a global brand
Another milestone in Rivka’s life came with moving to Scotland at the beginning of the 70s. Rivka reveals that she suffered with dry skin, as the Scottish weather dried out her face. She said to herself: “Look, if you can make an ointment, you can make a moisturiser.” And she was delighted with the result! And so it all began: buying the first essential ingredients at a local pharmacy, a friend’s help to produce the first logo… However, she did not yet have any regular customers. So Rivka travelled to London, where she began to sell her products house to house.
We should note that Rivka founded her business in 1974 – a time when there were no really popular organic shops and not such a high demand for natural cosmetics as there is today. But she had a vision and she remained firmly convinced by it. This was a turning point, as people were slowly becoming more and more interested in natural and cruelty-free cosmetics.
In 2014, Faith in Nature celebrated 40 years on the market. Today it sells more than 100 products in 25 countries around the world. It is one of the most sought-after natural cosmetic brands in the United Kingdom, and its success is certainly due to the brand’s philosophy, which is based on ethics, quality and high standards.
And what about you? Do you also like cruelty-free and natural cosmetics?
