A Spring Family Day in Prague: Petřín Tower

Spring is one of the most magical times for a Family Day in Prague: Petřín Tower. This iconic spot—home to the beloved Petřín Tower (Petřínská rozhledna)—is one of the city’s most beloved and photogenic locations. From the sweeping views of the city to romantic corners hidden among the trees, Petřín has something for everyone. In early May, the famous Petřínské sady (Petřín Orchards) bursts into bloom with over 2,000 blossoming apple trees, making it a dream spot for photographers, videographers, and families alike.

Blossoms, Gardens, and Hidden Corners

But beyond the main paths lies a quieter treasure: Kinský Garden (Kinského zahrada)—a peaceful, English-style landscape park that feels like a world of its own. Just a short stroll from the Štefánik Observatory (Štefánikova hvězdárna), it’s often missed by tourists – but not by locals who know where spring truly shines. With its winding paths, gentle slopes, and open grassy spaces, it’s the perfect hidden spot to rest, play, or simply take in the views.

All of this made it the perfect place for our relaxed family weekend stroll, which began on Šermířská Street, a quiet, tucked-away cul-de-sac already nestled on the hillside. We were dropped off by Uber, which we often use for outings like this—it’s one of the easiest ways to get around Prague with all three kids, especially in places where parking is limited.

At its very end of Šermířská Street, you step right into the dreamy Růžový sad (Petřín Rose Garden) and the lower entrance to Kinský Garden. It’s one of those secret little gateways into spring—where blooming roses and cascading wisteria seem to whisper stories of old Prague.

Views Like a Painting and Sweet Stops

Our Family Day in Prague: Petřín Tower adventure truly began with a view that felt like a painting—soft city rooftops, distant spires, and the gentle rhythm of Petřín Hill stretching below us. This peaceful moment set the tone for everything that followed: a slow, scenic walk full of little discoveries, laughter, and springtime magic.

Brunch Stop with a Garden View

We also enjoyed a relaxed brunch at a nearby bistro-café with a cosy garden terrace, where the kitchen pleasantly surprised us with delicious, flavourful dishes. The only thing I would wish for next time is a few more veggie-friendly and gluten-free options—but overall, it was a lovely family-friendly spot to refuel after our walk.

Snapshots by Štefánik and a Promise to Return

The kids had a blast discovering the statue of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, right near the Štefánik Observatory, and couldn’t resist posing for snapshots with this iconic figure from Czech and Slovak history. The observatory itself has recently been beautifully renovated, now featuring new interactive exhibits and experiences that attract visitors from all over the world. We didn’t go inside this time, but it’s already on our list for the next family weekend—we can’t wait to return and explore this amazing place together!

The cherry blossom photo moment and why I Keep Making Photo Diaries

After brunch, we quite literally ran through Růžový sad, chasing after our kids and gently herding them in the direction of Petřín Hill. On the way, we had our first little “photo session” of the day beneath a breathtaking white cherry blossom tree. The light was soft, the petals were falling—and the moment simply begged to be captured.

This tender cherry blossom photo moment became one of the highlights of our Family Day in Prague: Petřín Tower. It reminded me exactly why I keep making photo diaries—to hold on to these fleeting scenes that might otherwise slip away, lost in the rush of everyday life.

As someone who rarely misses a chance to bring a real camera, I truly believe it adds another layer to our memories. There’s something about a proper lens that captures depth and feeling—those quiet, fleeting expressions that can so easily get lost in the rush of everyday life. Sure, phones are handy, but they rarely offer that same magic.

Honestly, how many times have you looked at a photo from a few years ago and thought, “Wait… we were really there?” Then suddenly it all comes rushing back: “Oh, that was the weekend when…” These are the moments I live for—and the reason why I keep making photo diaries. Because life moves fast, and I want to remember it with all its colours, textures, and tiny, beautiful truths.

Mirror Maze & Family Fun by Petřín Tower

As part of our Family Day in Prague: Petřín Tower adventure, we made a sweet little stop at one of the indoor cafés tucked along the way—a cosy spot filled with tempting treats and delicious ice cream. Naturally, the kids were thrilled. Like most little ones, they declared it the best part of the day, licking their cones with happy, sticky smiles. For us, it was the perfect little refresh-and-regroup moment before continuing our spring adventure.

Tip for families visiting Prague: The Mirror Maze near the Petřín Tower is a great alternative for kids who might not enjoy the long climb—short, fun, and packed with giggles, it’s a hit with little explorers!

And while we passed by the iconic Petřín Lookout Tower, we didn’t climb it this time. To be honest, I could tell the kids were already happily worn out—and as a parent, you just know when it’s not the right moment for hundreds of steps. That said, it’s definitely family-friendly, and many families were making the climb. The view from the top is worth it: a breathtaking panorama of “Stověžatá Praha”the hundred-spired Prague, dotted with terracotta rooftops that seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon.

Instead of the tower, Jakub took Lucas to the nearby Mirror Maze, a charming and fun stop full of optical illusions and distorted mirrors that had them both laughing out loud.

Seminářská Garden and the Dandelion Moment

Meanwhile, I stayed a bit longer at the café, soaking up the spring sun and the slower rhythm of the day. After our café break and boy´s Mirror Maze, we wandered into the Seminářská Garden—a vast, sunlit meadow that gently unfolds beneath the slopes of Petřín Hill. It’s the kind of open space that invites barefoot play and long pauses in the grass.

Seminářská Garden is truly a breathtaking place—a spacious, blooming hillside with countless scenic viewpoints over Prague and even a small bistro tucked away among the trees. As we wandered through, Lucas began picking dandelions and sweetly told me they were for his wedding“And of course, I’ll invite you, Mum,” he added with a grin. He’s such a little romantic, and moments like these melt my heart.

We snapped a few more photos under the blossoming apple trees, lifted the kids up into the lower branches, and let them climb and giggle and just be kids. It was such a joyful, light-hearted part of the day—spring in full bloom, laughter in the trees.

A Delicious Ending at El Centro

Later, we made our way downhill, and my plan was to finally try a top-rated vegetarian restaurant called ´Natureza Vegetarian House´ I had on my list—but just as we arrived, it had closed a few minutes earlier. So we continued walking toward Újezd and stumbled upon a hidden gem: a Guatemalan restaurant called El Centro.

It turned out to be absolutely delicious—friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, and plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options. They even brought out colourful wooden blocks to keep the kids busy while we waited for dinner, which was such a thoughtful touch. And Victoria absolutely adored their roasted aubergine—a total win for our little foodie!

It was an absolutely magical day—full of blossoms, laughter, little surprises, and springtime light. I truly can’t wait for our next stroll through Prague’s hidden corners and family-friendly gems.

But before that… it’s time for one of our favourite early summer traditions: hand-picking strawberries together, sticky fingers and all. 🍓
